Day 1: Buenos Aires
Arrive at Buenos Aires International Airport and transfer to Alvear Palace, your hotel. A half-day city tour in the afternoon will be arranged for approximately 2 pm.
Half-Day City Tour, 3.5 hours. Start exploring the old district of San Telmo where the city was founded, with its colonial manors and narrow cobbled-stone streets dotted with antique stores and the lively Sundays flea market; the picturesque and colorful Italian District of La Boca with its tin-painted houses and street art market; the Plaza de Mayo Main Square with its old cabildo (government building); “Casa Rosada” Presidential Palace and Cathedral; the elegant residential neighborhoods of Recoleta with the famed cemetery boasting amazing mausoleums and statuary; the curvy streets of Palermo with its townhouses and blooming trees; the wide 9th of July Avenue and the grand Colon Opera House.
Day 2: Buenos Aires
The cultural heritage and arts scene in Buenos Aires is vibrant and constantly evolving. The city focuses attention and acts as a platform for promoting the art of the region. We visit the new and magnificent Museum of Latin American Modern and Contemporary Art (Malba, Costantini Collection), the home of some stunning moments of pan-Latin American culture. Created by Argentine art collector Eduardo Costantini, the MALBA opens it doors in a modern building to depict the evolution of Latin American painting and sculpture throughout the 20th century. Later we go through art galleries where you can see the latest aesthetic challenges in contemporary art. Among the most well-known: Ruth Benzacar & Mamam for contemporary Art and Zurbaran (Argentine old masters).
Dinner & Rojo Tango Show at Faena Hotel, a night club fashioned with the unique and personal touch of Philippe Starck, created to restore and revive the nostalgia of a time gone by, filled with the power of a modern phenomenon, overflowing with fantasy and sensuality.
Day 3: Buenos Aires/ Mendoza
This morning, transfer to the domestic airport to meet your flight to Mendoza, the heart of Argentina’s wine region. Transfer to Park Hyatt Mendoza for your stay.
Afternoon City Tour
Founded in 1521, Mendoza is characterized by tree-lined streets and a large network of irrigation channels. The Andes mountain ranges are a beautiful and dramatic backdrop for the city. Its universities, museums, theatres, and art galleries testify to a lively cultural life. Lovely squares dot the city and there is a beautiful central park with lovely landscaped gardens, iron gates, fountains and statuary, a lake, maze, and rose garden, a zoo, and the imposing Cerro de la Gloria with its marvelous monument to the historic Andes Crossing by General San Martín. Mendoza City is the ideal starting point to explore the region’s many wineries and vineyards and taste the famed Argentine wines.
Day 4: Mendoza, Full Day Winery Tour
The region of Mendoza accounts for most of the wine produced in Argentina. The conditions and climate are near perfect for grapes. The climate is continental, with enough rain (200 mm) to encourage healthy growth in the vines. Red varietals definitely outnumber white in Argentina. Malbec is the king of quality and flourishes in the Mendoza region. Originating from South-West France (Bordeaux region), Malbec is considered rather a rough little grape in Europe, capable of producing highly tannic wines. The most famous of all is the black wine of Cahors, so-called because it is the color of tar. Malbec seems to have found its true home in Argentina, producing robust wines, which are full of ripe forest fruit aromas and flavors. Many of the Malbecs in production benefit from aging, which lends a spicy, savory character to the wine.
Day 5: Transfer to Iguazú Falls
Transfer from Park Hyatt to airport for your flight to Iguazú Falls, where the cascades of the Iguazú Falls spread across a gulf of nearly two miles - one of the greatest natural spectacles on earth. On arrival in Iguazú, transfer to Iguazú Grand.
Day 6: Iguazu Falls
You’ll be met by our English-speaking guide and transferred to the National Park: visit upper trails and the Devil’s Gorge.
Devil's Throat: Take a steam-engine train ride through the park, followed by a stroll over the catwalks that lead to a fantastic lookout point hanging over the most spectacular fall: Devil’s Throat. Above the impact of water on basalt rock hovers a perpetual 100-feet high cloud of mist in which the sun creates blazing rainbows. The water plunges the entire 240 feet off the basalt flow into the cauldron below. On the way back, you can take a float trip along the Iguazú Superior, above the main falls sown with wooded islets, for the opportunity of sighting toucans and alligators. This can be easily combined with the Upper Circuit Walk as the train’s second station lies right by this trail.
*Lunch not included. Suggested buffet lunch at Sheraton Iguazú or at restaurant in the Park.*
In the afternoon, take the exciting one-hour program starting with an open four-wheel truck drive across the rainforest, along the Yacaratiá Trail, sighting flora and wildlife, followed by a short hike to a sandy beach. Refreshments will be served here before you embark on a thrilling boat ride upstream along the Lower Iguazú River to approach Devil’s Throat Canyon, San Martín Island, and the main falls: Three Musketeers, San Martín and Bosetti. (Be prepared to be drenched!)
We then take a hike along the Lower Trail (this walk demands some effort as there are stairs to climb) discovering more amazing views amidst the lush tropical vegetation dotted with orchids, bromeliads, a myriad of butterflies, birds, and rainbows which leads back to the Hotel.
Day 7: Iguazú Falls/ Buenos Aires
Transfer to Iguazú Falls Airport for your return international flight. Breakfast, transfer from your hotel to Iguazú Falls airport included.
