Day 1: Tarangire National Park
Depart from Arusha at 8am and drive to Tarangire National Park.
We will begin the game viewing at the richest vista of an endless golden savannah.
You will see the Tarangire River with Baobab trees all along the river-banks. This is a well established view point, where game can be viewed ambling to and from the river throughout the day.
Thousands of animals migrate from Maasai steppe to Tarangire River looking for water. You might be able to see three rare species of animals; the Greater Kadu, the Fringe-eared Oryx as well as a few Ashy Starlings.
Picnic lunches will be set on some of the picnic sites in the proximity of wildlife.
Day 2: Serengeti National Park
After breakfast, we will start our drive past the unique and gorgeous Ngorongoro Conservation Area via the famous Oldupai Gorge also known as “The Cradle of Mankind” to the Serengeti National Park.
The gorge lies on the same spot where once lay an ancient lake, which was covered by thick layers of volcanic ash, which carefully preserved the world's earliest records of mankind. This extremely important prehistoric site was discovered by Louis and Mary Leakey and the exhibitions from different periods in its history are on display in the Oldupai Gorge Museum, located on the gorge’s rim.
Our visit will also include the famous Maasai bomas, where you will be able to meet the Maasai people and get to know their culture and habits.
Upon entering the Serengeti National Park for your game drive, the most intriguing and yet amazing African landscape rolls before your eyes. Here you will experience African wildlife in all its glory.
Day 3: Serengeti National Park
At 06.00h we will start the sunrise game drive. You will be accompanied by the melodic singing of the birds while searching for leopards and lions hunting for their morning meal and contrastingly calm hippos, returning to their watery homes with their family.
We will return to the campsite or lodge, where we will enjoy a late breakfast at 9.00am. We will continue our game drive at 10.30am and stay in the wilderness for the rest of the day.
Our safari drive will continue according to the time of year and we will follow the animals on their trail.
Day 4: Serengeti NP - Ngorongoro Crater
After breakfast, we will start with a morning game drive and then head towards Ngorongoro Conservation Area.
The highlight of the expedition will be a game drive in the Serengeti. As far as the eye can see, thousands upon thousands of animals in herds, wildebeests and zebras migrating together, tall and graceful giraffes, jumping antelopes and gazelles, the powerful African elephant and the most respected group of animals: the predators. You will be able to spot lean cheetahs and shy leopards, foraging hyenas, and last but not least, the king himself; the lion.
While game viewing, we will proceed with picnic lunches.
Day 5: Ngorongoro Crater
After breakfast, we will proceed to Ngorongoro crater for a full-day game drive.
From the comfort of your open-top vehicle, descending down into the crater, you will enjoy amazing panoramic view and if you are lucky, you will see the Big five. The caldera exhibits more than 120 species of mammals. We will also visit saline lakes such as Lake Magadi, which is a magnet for flamingos and other water birds. We will also see pools full of hippos, the endangered East African black rhino as well as birds such as the secretary bird, the white stork arriving from Europe during the wet season and kori bustards, crowned cranes and ostriches. It is for sure a landscape of sheer beauty. Another big drawing card to this picturesque park is its dense population of predators, which include lions, hyenas, jackals, cheetahs and the ever-elusive leopard, which can require the trained eye of your guide to spot.
Day 6: Lake Eyasi- Hunting with Hadzabe Tribe
We will start our day before breakfast and visit the village, where we will find - the Hadzabe tribe.
The local hunters will prepare a performance of hunting techniques just for us. They are not merely a stylish display, but reveal their everyday life when they hunt for animals to feed their families. You will be asked to watch quietly and be as motionless as possible, as they will show how they attract animals with distinct motions, sometimes with the help of animal body parts, such as antelope horns and then poison them with home made products. The Hadzabe are endangered with an only about 2,000 Bushmen and women left and are the only tribe that has stayed true to nature. Large flocks of these colorful birds come to the lake’s shore every year, because it ensures a healthy and safe breeding ground. During the periods of high water levels, the lake’s borders are flooded and attract other animals, such as hippos.
Day 7: Lake Manyara National Park - Arusha
Depart after breakfast to Lake Manyara National Park for game viewing and picnic lunch. We will drive for about two hours, passing through the agricultural and fresh produce market town of Mto Wa Mbu, situated next to the entrance of the Lake Manyara National Park. The town is a souvenir hunters paradise.
We will enter Lake Manyara National Park, a photographers paradise for game viewing. Expect to see a park teeming with wildlife including the famous tree climbing lions resting in acacia trees. About the Destination
To paraphrase that well-known quote about Africa, we envy those who've never been to Northern Tanzania because they have so much to look forward to.
This is a land of superlatives, from Africa's highest mountain to arguably the greatest wildlife spectacle on the planet. But Kilimanjaro and the Serengeti are merely starting points to so many journeys of a lifetime. Mt Meru is Kilimanjaro's rival in both its beauty and the challenge of climbing it, while the Crater Highlands rank among Africa's most haunting landscapes. When it comes to wildlife, there's Tarangire's elephant kingdom, Lake Manyara's tree-climbing lions and the massed flamingos of Lake Natron. It all converges in Ngorongoro: venturing into its crater can feel like returning to earth's first morning.
But this, too, is a journey among the Maasai and the Hadzabe whose presence here makes this one of Africa's most stirring and soulful destinations.
Things to Do
Pick a superlative: amazing, incredible, breathtaking…they all apply to the stunning ethereal blue-green vistas of the Ngorongoro Crater. But as wonderful as the views are from above, the real magic happens when you get down inside and drive among an unparalleled concentration of wildlife, including the highest density of both lions and overall predators in Africa. Put simply, this is one of Africa's premier attractions and this world-renowned natural wonder is deservedly a Unesco World Heritage site.
